Overall I do really like Western Michigan University. A major reason why I chose to go was because no other school near me had the major that I wanted to pursue. The Kalamazoo area in MI can be pretty dangerous, however, I have always felt safe on the campus grounds. Campus food is nothing glamours but there are some great places to eat in the greater Kalamazoo/southwest area of MI. Not to mention it is very close to other big towns/cities such as Chicago, Ann Arbor, Lansing, etc. What I do like about WMU is how diversity is very important to the school. Sometimes it does feel as though they value clubs/sports over academics which can be frustrating but to be expected. Teachers are usually pretty nice but a lot of the textbooks they use are mandatory and outdated. If WMU has a certain program/major that you are interested in pursuing it is a great school, however, I would not recommend going in undecided or in a more common major you would find anywhere. All that to say, Go Broncos!

My overall experience with WMU was fun! However as my time progressed, things as far as diversity and different opportunities started to diminish. All in all, the experience that I had would not have been so fulling for me if it wasnt for the people that were brought into my life at the time they did.

In my time at WMU, there have not been a lot of complaints. The professors are enthusiastic, the curriculum is intriguing and stimulating, and I have been given access to many different resources. Everything that I need to do is easy to find, and even when it isn’t, all I need is a quick Google Search on how to do something. There are a few things that have bothered me. Things like anti-abortionists stationing around campus at times, handing out pamphlets and arguing with people. However, they are exercising their freedom of speech and I respect that everyone has different opinions. One thing that I’ve loved at WMU is how much they promote on-campus living and studying. There are so many places to sit and different study halls. My favorite places to work are in a beautiful study room in the library or in Wood Hall’s greenhouse. It has been much better than I expected and I’m proud to be a Bronco.
